March 2017 Meeting Roundup

March was a great meeting! We got to return to our Henderson location, but it had a whole new look! Renovations were completed while we were away and everything looks great.

New Social Media Chair– Unfortunately, Hannah stepped down from her post in Social Media this month. Thanks for all your hard work in the past, Hannah! Hayle McClellan volunteered to take her place. Thanks Hayle!

Website Reminder– Everything about our various happenings will be posted on the website each month. That means all information about the Block Lottery, swaps and challenges, charity blocks, and any events coming up will all be there.

Events– DQN Quilt Show is taking place at the Henderson Convention Center next weekend. Information can be found here. Note that the days and hours have changed from previous years.

The Dixie Quilt Guild show in St. George is taking place April 13th and 14th. We are having a day trip to go to the show and possibly Superior Threads. We will be meeting at the Cannery casino on Craig & Losee on Friday, April 14th at 7:30am to caravan/carpool up to St. George. Show admission is $8.

Latifah Saafir will be teaching her Glam Clam quilt in a 6-hour class on September 30, 2017. Class time will be announced at a later time. The class will be held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 8901 Del Webb Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89134. The pattern is required and can be purchased from her website. The Clammy template is recommended. More information (including a discount code) will come later.

Swap
“Out of the Box” Mug Rug Swap
Our swap was a big success! We got lots of mug rugs to share. So much creativity was shown!

We are planning on a future swap with the Salt Lake City Modern Quilt Guild. We are looking at a swap date of late summer or fall. More information to come!

Charity– We are now collecting bowtie blocks so we can make quilts for boys! The tutorial for the Bowtie blocks can be found here.  Bowtie should be made of blue or orange (solid or print).  Background should be grey (solid or print) not white as shown in the sample.
9.5″ unfinished blocks
Final layout of quilt will depend on how many blocks we collect!

Block Lottery–  We are making a tulip block. You can find the pattern here.

tulip heads: one color/print (like the example) or same color but two different shades (dark purple, bright pink, yellow and orange/coral)
background: white on white
steam/leaves: bright green

Next Meeting- Our next meeting will be held on April 26th at 6pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
